The 2026 GFG Annual General Meeting will be held at:

Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik
Lapad Peninsula
Dubrovnik, Croatia

Hotel Kompas is situated in the Lapad area of Dubrovnik, overlooking the Adriatic Sea and within easy reach of restaurants, cafés, beaches and local transport.

Arriving in Dubrovnik

The nearest airport is Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport, commonly shown on flight itineraries as Dubrovnik Airport – DBV.

The airport is located outside the city, and the journey to Dubrovnik generally takes approximately 30–45 minutes, depending on traffic.

Airport Transfer Options

Airport shuttle: Official shuttle services operate between Dubrovnik Airport and the city. Departures are generally coordinated with arriving flights. The principal city stops include the Ploče area near the Old Town and the main bus station in Gruž.

Taxi: Taxis are available outside the arrivals terminal. The official airport advises that fares are displayed at the terminal and that drivers are required to provide a receipt.

Private transfer: Members may prefer to reserve a private transfer in advance, particularly when arriving late at night or travelling with substantial luggage.

Please confirm your transfer arrangements and current prices before travelling.

Passports and Visas

Croatia is a member of both the European Union and the Schengen Area.

Visitors from many countries may enter the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, requirements depend on your nationality, passport type, travel history and the countries through which you transit.

As a general rule, your passport should:

  • Be valid for at least three months beyond the date on which you intend to leave the Schengen Area
  • Have been issued within the previous ten years
  • Contain sufficient blank pages
  • Match the details shown on your airline booking

Travellers may also be asked to provide evidence of accommodation, onward or return travel, travel insurance and sufficient funds for their stay.

Each attendee is responsible for checking the requirements applicable to their own passport with the relevant embassy, consulate or official European Union travel website before departure.

European Entry Systems

Non-EU travellers entering the Schengen Area may be required to complete biometric border registration under the European Entry/Exit System, known as EES. This may include a facial photograph and fingerprints when crossing an external Schengen border.

The separate European Travel Information and Authorisation System, known as ETIAS, is intended for eligible visa-exempt travellers. Its implementation schedule has changed several times, so attendees should check the official European Union travel information shortly before departure and avoid unofficial websites offering costly application services.

Allow additional time at passport control, particularly when entering the Schengen Area for the first time under the new procedures.

Currency and Payments

The official currency of Croatia is the euro (€).

Major credit and debit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and larger businesses. It is nevertheless advisable to carry a small amount of cash for cafés, markets, local transport and smaller purchases.

ATMs are available throughout Dubrovnik. When using an ATM or card terminal, selecting payment in euros and declining unnecessary currency conversion may help you avoid unfavourable exchange rates imposed by third-party providers.

Before travelling, advise your bank that you will be using your card overseas and confirm any international transaction charges.

Weather in October

October in Dubrovnik is generally mild, but conditions can be changeable. Daytime temperatures are commonly around 14°C to 20°C, with cooler mornings and evenings. Sunny days are possible, but October can also bring rain, wind and occasional storms.

We recommend packing:

  • Light clothing for warmer afternoons
  • A jacket or cardigan for evenings
  • A waterproof jacket or compact umbrella
  • Comfortable, supportive walking shoes
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • A smart-casual outfit for AGM social events

Dubrovnik’s Old Town has polished stone paving, steps and uneven surfaces, which can become slippery when wet. Sensible footwear is strongly recommended.

Clothing for the AGM

The recommended dress code is:

Business sessions: Business casual
Welcome Cocktail Reception: Smart casual
Evening dinners and social events: Smart casual or cocktail attire
Optional excursions: Comfortable casual clothing and walking shoes

A light jacket or wrap may be useful for outdoor evening events.

Local Transport

Dubrovnik has a public bus network connecting Lapad, Gruž, Pile and other parts of the city.

The historic Old Town is largely pedestrianised. Vehicles do not operate within most of the walled city, so visitors should expect to walk once they arrive at one of the entrance gates.

Taxis and app-based transport services are also available. Traffic around the Old Town can be busy, particularly when cruise ships are in port, so allow extra travelling time.

Walking in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a beautiful city to explore on foot, but members should be aware that it includes:

  • Numerous stone steps
  • Steep streets and inclines
  • Smooth limestone paving
  • Limited vehicle access within the Old Town
  • Crowded entrance areas during busy periods

Take your time, wear supportive shoes and use handrails where available. Members with mobility concerns may wish to check accessibility arrangements before visiting the city walls or booking excursions.

Electricity and Charging

Croatia uses a 230-volt electricity supply with European-style two-pin plugs, normally Type C or Type F.

Travellers from countries using different sockets should bring a suitable European travel adaptor. A multi-port charger or small power bank may also be useful.

Check that personal appliances are compatible with 230 volts before connecting them.

Mobile Phones and Internet

Wi-Fi is available at most hotels, restaurants and cafés.

International roaming charges vary considerably, so attendees should check with their mobile provider before departure. An international roaming package, European SIM card or eSIM may be more economical.

Croatia’s international telephone country code is +385.

Language

The official language is Croatian, although English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants, shops and tourism-related businesses.

A few useful Croatian expressions are:

Hello: Dobar dan
Good morning: Dobro jutro
Please: Molim
Thank you: Hvala
Yes: Da
No: Ne
Goodbye: Doviđenja

Time Zone

Dubrovnik observes Central European Summer Time in October, which is normally UTC+2 until the seasonal clock change later in the month.

Please check the time difference from your home country when scheduling calls or onward travel.

Get Ready for ETIAS

Starting in late 2026, the Croatia ETIAS will be a mandatory requirement for visa-exempt travelers entering Croatia and other participating European countries. It’s being introduced to enhance security while making travel across the EU more efficient.

If you’re from a country like the U.S., Canada, Australia, or Japan, you’ll need to apply online before your trip. Be sure to check your eligibility, prepare your travel documents, and submit your application early.
